After All It's Just a Diary
Being in a relationship is great. There are so many positive things about it. You have someone to finish your food when you can’t. Someone to give you a boost when you’re feeling down. Someone always there for you when you need them, and so much more.
Despite all of these wonderful things, every relationship has its sore spots. Every couple has one thing that tests them. For my boyfriend and me, it’s movies. One of the hardest things I constantly deal with is the grueling task of finding a movie we will both enjoy. A task made even more difficult by the fact that he is a film and television student with a very specific taste in movies.
So I have decided to make it my mission to find movies that I like and own that my boyfriend will also enjoy. Most of the movies I own are chick flicks, so initially he was reluctant in agreeing to watch one. But after the promise of freshly baked goods to snack on during the viewing, he agreed.
First up was Bridget Jones’s Diary. This is a movie I have watched with several male family members, and they all got a kick out of it, so it seemed like a solid first choice.
Bridget Jones’s Diary is about a British woman in her 30s who starts a diary at new year with the intention of improving herself and her life. The movie stars Renee Zellweger as Bridget Jones, as well as Colin Firth and Hugh Grant as her love interests.
Shockingly, it was a much bigger hit with him than I thought it would be. Whenever Bridget did something ridiculous he smiled and anytime Daniel made a quick remark he laughed. I sat there in awe over how much he was enjoying it.
What did he like most about it?
“The character of Bridget is hilarious, and the way she deals with situations is comedy gold.”
What he thought made it a good movie for guys?
“The type of comedy used in the movies is one that both genders can enjoy. No doubt it’s a chick flick but they took into consideration the guys who were going to have to watch it with their girls.”
He rated the movie a solid seven out of ten, making movie number one a success. With the bar set fairly high, I’ll have trouble finding a movie to top it!
